Human Plasma Samples for Research from Healthy and Disease-State Donors

Human plasma for research is collected from IRB-consented donors with clinically confirmed healthy or disease-state diagnoses and processed within hours of collection to preserve key analytes. These human plasma samples — including normal human plasma from healthy donors and disease-state plasma — support biomarker discovery, immune profiling, translational studies, and other plasma-based research applications. Bulk plasma is available. Browse all plasma products in our catalog or request custom sourcing below.

What Is Human Plasma?

Human plasma is the liquid component of blood that remains when the cellular components (red cells, white cells, and platelets) are removed. It makes up roughly 55% of blood volume and carries proteins, clotting factors, electrolytes, hormones, and metabolites. Unlike serum, plasma is collected with an anticoagulant so it retains fibrinogen and other clotting factors — which is why plasma is preferred for coagulation, proteomic, and many biomarker studies. For help deciding, see our guide to choosing between serum and plasma.

Anticoagulant Options

Choose the anticoagulant that matches your assay: EDTA (K2/K3) for most molecular and biomarker work, sodium or lithium heparin for many plasma chemistry applications, or sodium citrate for coagulation studies. Custom collection tubes and aliquot volumes are available on request.
