Healthy Human Serum for Control and Reference Research

Our Healthy Serum is sourced from IRB-consented, clinically screened healthy donors. Each sample is processed and frozen within 24 hours of collection to ensure consistency and high quality as baseline and control material for immunology, clinical chemistry, and biomarker studies. Aliquot volumes are configured per project and reported per lot. Healthy plasma is also available where an anticoagulated matrix is required.

Why Serum from Healthy Donors

Serum is the liquid fraction remaining after whole blood has been allowed to clot and the clot removed. That single processing difference determines what serum is good for, and it is the reason serum and plasma are not interchangeable in a study design.

  • Because fibrinogen and the clotting factors are consumed during coagulation, serum is a lower-complexity protein matrix than plasma, which reduces interference in many immunoassay and mass spectrometry workflows.
  • Clot formation releases platelet contents into the fluid, so serum concentrations of platelet-derived mediators differ systematically from plasma — a difference that must be controlled, not ignored, when comparing datasets.
  • Serum is the conventional matrix for most clinical chemistry panels, hormone assays, and infectious disease serology, so healthy serum is the natural comparator when a candidate assay is intended to sit alongside standard-of-care testing.
  • Healthy serum defines the baseline against which a disease-state signal is measured; without a contemporaneously collected, identically processed control arm, an apparent biomarker difference may reflect handling rather than biology.
  • Serum from screened donors with no active disease supports establishment of reference ranges and normal distributions for candidate analytes.
  • Because our healthy and disease-state collections run under the same protocols and processing windows, pre-analytical variables are held constant across the comparison.
