Healthy cord blood bags are collected from the umbilical cord and placenta following full-term delivery from consented donors under strict collection protocols. Umbilical cord blood is a valuable source of hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells (HSPCs), as well as diverse immune cell populations including T cells, B cells, NK cells, and monocytes.

Compared to adult peripheral blood, cord blood contains a higher proportion of primitive hematopoietic stem cells and immunologically naive lymphocytes. Because cord blood lymphocytes have not yet encountered most antigens, they are the reference material for studying immune development and neonatal immunity — questions adult blood simply cannot answer. This also makes cord blood an important resource for transplantation science and cell and gene therapy development.
