COPD Leukopak
About:LeukoCore COPD Leukopak products deliver high-yield leukocytes from clinically confirmed chronic obstructive pulmonary disease donors, collected via apheresis and shipped within 24 hours, fresh or cryopreserved. Built for neutrophil degranulation and elastase-release assays, monocyte-derived macrophage clearance models, oxidative burst work and deep immunophenotyping. Stratification by severity, phenotype, exacerbation history, AAT deficiency and smoking status.
About COPD Leukopak
COPD Leukopak for Chronic Airway Inflammation Research
LeukoCore COPD Leukopak biospecimens are collected from IRB-consented donors clinically diagnosed with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease through IRB-approved apheresis procedures. Each peripheral blood leukopak contains large quantities of leukocytes including peripheral blood mononuclear cells, is processed and shipped within 24 hours of collection, and is available fresh or cryopreserved for immune profiling, cell-based assays and drug development in COPD.
Why COPD Leukopak for Airway Inflammation Research
COPD is a chronic inflammatory airway disease rather than an autoimmune one. Sustained inhalational injury drives recruitment of neutrophils and macrophages into the airways and parenchyma; oxidative stress amplifies the response, and the resulting protease-antiprotease imbalance degrades elastin and other structural matrix. The circulating leukocytes that feed and sustain that infiltrate are exactly what an apheresis leukopak delivers, and at a scale no venipuncture draw can match.
- Neutrophils in bulk — apheresis collection yields enough granulocytes and mononuclear cells to support neutrophil chemotaxis, degranulation and elastase-release assays that are impractical from small draws.
- Monocyte and macrophage biology — donor monocytes can be differentiated into macrophage models to study impaired phagocytosis, efferocytosis and defective bacterial clearance described in COPD.
- Protease release and matrix degradation — neutrophil elastase and matrix metalloproteinases including MMP-9 and MMP-12 can be measured as functional cellular outputs, not just as circulating concentrations.
- Oxidative burst and redox stress — reactive oxygen species generation and antioxidant handling in disease-state leukocytes can be assayed directly in viable cells.
- Lymphocyte compartment — CD8+ T cells, Th1 and Th17 populations and the eosinophilic subset seen in some donors are all accessible for immunophenotyping and single-cell work.
- Scale for screening — high cell yield from a single well-characterised donor removes donor-to-donor variability across a full assay-development or compound-screening campaign.
Donor Stratification Available
- Airflow limitation severity — donors graded by spirometry-based severity classification where documented
- Clinical phenotype — emphysema-predominant, chronic bronchitis-predominant, and mixed presentations
- Exacerbation history — frequent exacerbators versus stable donors at the time of collection
- Alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency status — donors with documented deficiency available as a distinct subgroup
- Smoking and exposure history — current smokers, former smokers, and never-smokers with occupational or biomass exposure; treatment status including inhaled corticosteroid and biologic therapy
- Matched healthy controls available, including smoking-matched controls without airflow limitation
