Kidney Cancer PBMC for Tumor Immunology and Immuno-Oncology Research
Kidney Cancer PBMC products are sourced from IRB-consented donors clinically diagnosed with kidney cancer and processed within 24 hours of collection under standardized SOPs. These cryopreserved peripheral blood mononuclear cells are stored in CryoStor® CS10 and shipped on dry ice. Research Use Only (RUO).
Tumor Immunology and Why PBMC
- Most kidney cancers are renal cell carcinoma, and clear cell RCC is the dominant histology; papillary and chromophobe subtypes are biologically distinct.
- Clear cell RCC is characterized by loss of VHL function, which stabilizes hypoxia-inducible factors and drives a strongly VEGF-dependent, highly vascular tumor phenotype.
- RCC is among the more densely immune-infiltrated solid tumors and is clinically responsive to immune checkpoint blockade, including combinations of checkpoint inhibitors and with VEGF-directed tyrosine kinase inhibitors.
- Circulating T cells in advanced disease commonly show activation and exhaustion-associated phenotypes, and peripheral immune composition is widely studied as a correlate of checkpoint inhibitor response.
- PBMCs provide viable effector and regulatory populations for immunophenotyping, TCR repertoire analysis, and functional cytotoxicity or suppression assays; plasma and serum cannot support these readouts.
- Donor-matched PBMCs are also used as autologous effector cells in co-culture and ex vivo checkpoint blockade models.
