Melanoma PBMC for Tumour Immunology Research
Melanoma Human PBMC products are cryopreserved peripheral blood mononuclear cells from IRB-consented donors with a clinically confirmed melanoma diagnosis. Cells are processed within 24 hours of collection and stored in CryoStor® CS10, supporting immuno-oncology, checkpoint biology, and cell therapy research.
Melanoma Tumour Immunology and Why PBMC
Melanoma is a malignancy of melanocytes and a neoplastic, not autoimmune, disease. It has become the reference indication for cancer immunotherapy, which makes patient-derived circulating immune cells especially valuable:
- High tumour mutational burden. Ultraviolet-induced DNA damage produces a characteristic mutational signature and a large neoantigen pool, underpinning melanoma’s immunogenicity
- Defined oncogenic drivers include activating BRAF mutations, NRAS mutations, and NF1 loss, which stratify patients for targeted therapy and interact with immune escape mechanisms
- Checkpoint blockade is standard of care in advanced disease, targeting PD-1, PD-L1, CTLA-4, and LAG-3; peripheral immune state is widely studied as a correlate of response and of immune-related adverse events
- T-cell exhaustion and differentiation state — PD-1, TIM-3, LAG-3, and TOX expression across circulating CD8+ subsets — is a central readout in melanoma immunology
- Defined tumour antigens such as MART-1, gp100, tyrosinase, and NY-ESO-1 make antigen-specific T-cell detection and expansion tractable from peripheral blood
