About Asthma Plasma

Asthma Plasma for Airway Inflammation and Type 2 Immunity Research

Asthma Plasma is collected from IRB-consented donors clinically diagnosed with asthma and processed within one day of collection to preserve cytokines, proteins and metabolites. Plasma is acellular, so this product is intended for soluble-analyte measurement rather than cell-based assays.

Asthma Endotypes and Why Plasma

Asthma is a chronic inflammatory airway disease characterised by variable airflow obstruction and airway hyperresponsiveness. It is not an autoimmune disease. Modern asthma research is organised around endotypes rather than a single mechanism.

  • Type 2 high asthma is driven by IL-4, IL-5 and IL-13 signalling, with eosinophilic airway inflammation and IgE-mediated sensitisation to inhaled allergens
  • Total and allergen-specific IgE, along with type 2 cytokines and eosinophil-associated proteins, are measurable in plasma and underpin patient selection for biologic therapies
  • Non-type 2 asthma encompasses neutrophilic and paucigranulocytic patterns, is more often associated with obesity, smoking or later onset, and typically responds poorly to type 2 targeted biologics
  • Airway remodelling, including smooth muscle hypertrophy and subepithelial fibrosis, contributes to fixed obstruction in longstanding disease
  • Because sputum and bronchoscopy are impractical at scale, plasma is the workhorse matrix for endotype-associated soluble markers and for pharmacodynamic readouts in biologic development
  • Plasma supports multiplex cytokine panels, specific IgE testing, proteomics and metabolomics from a single acellular sample

Donor Stratification Available

  • Severity: mild, moderate, or severe asthma by clinical assessment
  • Allergic versus non-allergic asthma
  • Blood eosinophil count band where available
  • Treatment tier: inhaled corticosteroid alone, combination controller therapy, or on a type 2 targeted biologic
  • Comorbid atopic conditions such as allergic rhinitis, atopic dermatitis, or nasal polyposis
  • Smoking status and exacerbation history
  • Matched healthy controls available

Product Features

  • Research Use Only (RUO)
  • Plasma collected from clinically confirmed asthma donors
  • Processed within one day of collection
  • IRB-approved protocols and informed consent
  • Custom aliquot volumes available upon request

Where can I find your complete catalog?
How long can samples be stored?

Storage depends on sample type but often cryopreserved samples stored in liquid nitrogen can be stored for years.

What customization options are available?

Extensive customization is available. To discuss your project request a quote or email us at learnmore@sanguinebio.com.

Do you offer prospective collections?

Sanguine offers flexible prospective collection services tailored to fit your research. For more information and to request a quote, please see: our prospective biospecimen collection services page.

What is the turnaround time for custom collections?

Timelines depend on condition, sample type, and I/E criteria but we often start collection within 2 weeks of signed agreement.

Do you have samples in stock?

YES - we have in-stock inventory. You can also email us at learnmore@sanguinebio.com as we continually get new samples in our inventory.

What does unique donor mean?

Each sample from a different individual - Unique donor means each sample comes from a different person, ensuring biological diversity in your study.

Are samples collected under IRB-approved protocols?

YES - "IRB-approved collection protocols" and IRB approval documentation available upon request. Sanguine utilizes two internationally-recognized IRBs (Advarra and WCG IRB) for review and approval.
