Cytomegalovirus (CMV) Plasma for Research

Cytomegalovirus Plasma is collected from CMV-positive donors and processed within hours of collection to preserve key analytes such as viral DNA, cytokines, and proteins. This human plasma supports viral load quantification, serological assay development, and research into CMV immune control and reactivation.

Serostatus vs Active Infection — Specify Which You Need

CMV is a betaherpesvirus that establishes lifelong latency after primary infection, so “CMV positive” can mean very different things. The distinction usually determines whether a sample is fit for purpose:

• CMV IgG positive, latent — the majority of seropositive adults. No detectable viraemia. Used as a serology control and for memory T cell work.
• CMV IgM positive / primary infection — recent seroconversion, valuable for diagnostic assay validation
• Active infection or reactivation — detectable CMV DNA in plasma, quantified in IU/mL. Scarcer and typically arises in immunocompromised donors.
• CMV seronegative — matched negative controls, also relevant for cell therapy starting material where CMV-naive donors are specified

Because CMV serostatus materially shapes the T cell repertoire — CMV-specific clones can occupy a substantial fraction of the memory CD8+ compartment — CMV status is worth recording even in studies not about CMV at all.
