Our Hypertension Serum is sourced from IRB-consented donors clinically diagnosed with hypertension. Each sample is processed and frozen within 24 hours of collection to preserve hormones, lipids, renal analytes, and other labile markers. Hypertension is a vascular and metabolic disorder driven by activity of the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system, sympathetic nervous system tone, renal sodium handling, endothelial dysfunction with reduced nitric oxide bioavailability, and progressive vascular remodelling and arterial stiffening.

Why Hypertension Serum

• Renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system analytes: renin, aldosterone, and the aldosterone-to-renin ratio are central to characterising hypertensive phenotypes and to separating primary aldosteronism from essential hypertension.
• Natriuretic peptides (BNP and NT-proBNP) index pressure and volume load on the heart and are widely used in hypertensive target-organ studies.
• Secondary hypertension screening: metanephrines and catecholamine metabolites, cortisol, and thyroid function markers support work on catecholamine-secreting and endocrine causes.
• Renal and metabolic markers: creatinine, cystatin C, electrolytes, uric acid, glucose, insulin, and full lipid panels can be measured from the same serum aliquot.
• Endothelial and vascular biology: serum supports measurement of soluble adhesion molecules, endothelin-1, asymmetric dimethylarginine, and markers of extracellular matrix turnover relevant to vascular remodelling.

• Treated versus untreated / treatment-naive donors
• Antihypertensive drug class: ACE inhibitor, angiotensin receptor blocker, thiazide or thiazide-like diuretic, calcium channel blocker, beta blocker, mineralocorticoid receptor antagonist, or combination therapy
• Resistant hypertension
• Comorbid chronic kidney disease, type 2 diabetes, obesity, or dyslipidaemia
• Established target-organ damage, including left ventricular hypertrophy, prior stroke, or coronary artery disease
• Matched healthy normotensive controls available
