Psoriasis Plasma for Immune-Mediated Inflammatory Skin Disease Research

Psoriasis Plasma is collected from IRB-consented donors with a clinically confirmed diagnosis of psoriasis and processed within one day of collection to preserve labile analytes such as cytokines, chemokines, proteins, and metabolites. Psoriasis is a chronic immune-mediated inflammatory disease of the skin driven by the IL-23/IL-17 cytokine axis rather than by a defined autoantibody, and its inflammatory signature is systemic as well as cutaneous. Plasma from these donors supports research into circulating inflammatory mediators, biomarker discovery, and mechanisms of therapeutic response.

Why Plasma for Psoriasis Research

• Psoriasis is sustained by an IL-23-driven type 17 response: myeloid dendritic cell IL-23 licenses T cells to produce IL-17A, IL-17F and IL-22, which in turn drive keratinocyte hyperproliferation and epidermal acanthosis. Plasma captures the soluble arm of that axis.
• TNF-alpha, IL-17 and IL-23 are the targets of every major approved biologic class in psoriasis, making plasma the natural matrix for target-engagement, pharmacodynamic and treatment-response studies.
• Keratinocyte-derived antimicrobial peptides and chemokines — including S100 proteins, LL-37/cathelicidin and CXCL-family chemokines — reach the circulation and can be measured without needing lesional tissue.
• Psoriasis carries well-documented systemic comorbidity, including psoriatic arthritis, metabolic syndrome and elevated cardiovascular risk. Plasma permits inflammatory, lipid and glycaemic markers to be assessed against skin disease severity in the same donor.
• Because plasma is separated without a clotting step, platelet- and coagulation-adjacent analytes are better preserved than in serum, which matters for the thrombo-inflammatory phenotype reported in psoriasis.
• Plasma paired with a skin punch biopsy or PBMCs from the same donor lets circulating mediators be anchored directly to lesional tissue and cellular biology.

• Disease severity by PASI score and/or affected body surface area
• Clinical subtype: plaque, guttate, inverse, pustular or erythrodermic psoriasis
• Presence or absence of concurrent psoriatic arthritis
• Treatment status: biologic-naive, on TNF / IL-17 / IL-23 inhibitor, on methotrexate or other systemic agent, topical-only, or in washout
• Cardiometabolic comorbidity: BMI category, type 2 diabetes, hypertension, dyslipidaemia
