About Atopic Dermatitis Serum

Human Atopic Dermatitis Serum for Type 2 Inflammation and IgE Research

Our Atopic Dermatitis Serum is sourced from IRB-consented donors clinically diagnosed with atopic dermatitis, a chronic form of eczema. Each sample is processed and frozen within 24 hours of collection to ensure consistency and high quality for dermatology and allergy research. Atopic dermatitis is an allergic, type 2-skewed inflammatory skin disease driven by the interaction of epidermal barrier dysfunction with Th2 cytokine signalling, rather than by autoantibodies against self.

Why Serum for Atopic Dermatitis Research

  • Serum is the reference matrix for total IgE and for quantitative allergen-specific IgE. Elevated total IgE and broad polysensitisation are hallmarks of the extrinsic atopic dermatitis phenotype, and the clinical assays and thresholds were established in serum.
  • CCL17 (TARC) is the most consistently replicated circulating biomarker of atopic dermatitis severity, and the published correlations with EASI and SCORAD were generated in serum — making serum the right matrix for comparability with that literature.
  • Lactate dehydrogenase in serum has a long-standing reported association with atopic dermatitis severity and is measurable on standard clinical chemistry platforms alongside inflammatory markers.
  • Eosinophil-derived proteins and periostin, an IL-13-inducible matricellular protein, are studied as severity and type 2 activity markers and are conventionally assayed in serum.
  • Serum contains no anticoagulant, avoiding citrate or EDTA interference on the immunoassay and mass spectrometry platforms used for IgE quantification and for dermatology biomarker panels.
  • Serum drawn alongside a skin punch biopsy from the same donor allows circulating type 2 activity to be related directly to lesional barrier and inflammatory biology.

Donor Stratification Available

  • Disease severity by EASI, SCORAD or Investigator Global Assessment where recorded
  • Total IgE level and blood eosinophil count where available
  • Treatment status: topical-only, biologic-naive, on dupilumab or other type 2 biologic, on JAK inhibitor, on systemic immunosuppressant, or in washout
  • Atopic comorbidity: asthma, allergic rhinitis, food allergy, or atopic dermatitis alone
  • Age group, including paediatric and adult donors
  • Disease duration and age at onset where reported
  • Matched healthy controls available

Where can I find your complete catalog?
How long can samples be stored?

Storage depends on sample type but often cryopreserved samples stored in liquid nitrogen can be stored for years.

What customization options are available?

Extensive customization is available. To discuss your project request a quote or email us at learnmore@sanguinebio.com.

Do you offer prospective collections?

Sanguine offers flexible prospective collection services tailored to fit your research. For more information and to request a quote, please see: our prospective biospecimen collection services page.

What is the turnaround time for custom collections?

Timelines depend on condition, sample type, and I/E criteria but we often start collection within 2 weeks of signed agreement.

Do you have samples in stock?

YES - we have in-stock inventory. You can also email us at learnmore@sanguinebio.com as we continually get new samples in our inventory.

What does unique donor mean?

Each sample from a different individual - Unique donor means each sample comes from a different person, ensuring biological diversity in your study.

Are samples collected under IRB-approved protocols?

YES - "IRB-approved collection protocols" and IRB approval documentation available upon request. Sanguine utilizes two internationally-recognized IRBs (Advarra and WCG IRB) for review and approval.
