Healthy Pediatric Serum for Reference Range and Pediatric Assay Research

Healthy Pediatrics Serum is collected from IRB-consented healthy paediatric donors with parental or guardian consent and age-appropriate assent, and processed and frozen within 24 hours of collection. These are not disease specimens: they are normal paediatric reference material for establishing age-appropriate baselines, validating assays intended for paediatric use, and serving as matched controls in paediatric disease studies.

Why Age-Matched Pediatric Serum Matters

Adult reference serum is not a valid substitute for paediatric material. Many circulating analytes have reference intervals that change substantially with age and pubertal development, so an assay calibrated or validated only on adult serum can misclassify a healthy child.

  • Immune ontogeny — immunoglobulin isotypes mature on distinct trajectories, with IgG passing through a physiologic nadir in infancy and IgA rising latest, so paediatric immunology baselines cannot be inferred from adults.
  • Growth and bone turnover — alkaline phosphatase and IGF-1 track skeletal growth and peak around the pubertal growth spurt, producing paediatric ranges that overlap poorly with adult ones.
  • Endocrine transitions — thyroid, gonadal and adrenal axis analytes shift markedly with pubertal stage, making Tanner-stage or age-band matching essential in endocrinology research.
  • Assay validation for paediatric indications — regulatory and clinical development programmes need normal paediatric matrix for accuracy, interference, linearity and reference-interval work in the intended population.
  • Matrix for spike-recovery and calibration — normal paediatric serum provides a biologically appropriate background for recovery and parallelism experiments.
  • Matched controls for paediatric disease cohorts — comparisons in paediatric autoimmune, genetic, oncology and infectious disease studies are only interpretable against age-matched normal serum.
