Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) Bulk Plasma is collected by apheresis from IRB-consented donors with a clinically confirmed diagnosis of SLE, using ACDA (Acid-Citrate-Dextrose Formula A) as the anticoagulant. Apheresis yields far more plasma per donor than a standard venipuncture draw, so a single well-characterised lupus donor can support an entire assay-development or biomarker-qualification campaign without introducing donor-to-donor variability. Every lot is tested and confirmed negative for HIV, HBV and HCV, collected under IRB-approved informed consent with HIPAA-compliant data handling, and available fresh or frozen in standard or custom volumes.

Why SLE Plasma for Autoimmune Research

SLE is a systemic autoimmune disease in which loss of tolerance to nuclear self-antigens drives autoantibody production, immune-complex formation and complement-mediated injury across skin, joints, kidney, blood and other organ systems. Much of that cascade is measurable directly in the acellular compartment, which makes high-volume disease-state plasma unusually informative.

  • Antinuclear autoantibodies — ANA, anti-dsDNA and anti-Sm/anti-RNP reactivities circulate in plasma and form the serological backbone of lupus classification criteria.
  • Immune complexes and complement consumption — circulating nucleic-acid/antibody complexes with reduced C3 and C4 and elevated activation products reflect ongoing complement turnover.
  • Type I interferon axis — nucleic-acid-containing immune complexes stimulate plasmacytoid dendritic cells, and the resulting interferon-associated soluble mediator profile is detectable in plasma.
  • B-cell survival and inflammatory cytokines — BAFF/BLyS, IL-6, IL-10, TNF-α and interferon-inducible chemokines support B-cell-directed and cytokine-blockade programmes.
  • Cell-free nucleic acids and vesicles — apheresis volumes are large enough for cell-free DNA, extracellular-vesicle and neutrophil-extracellular-trap-associated workflows that small aliquots cannot support.
  • Correct matrix, by design — plasma is acellular and is the appropriate input for soluble-analyte immunoassays, proteomics and metabolomics; ACDA anticoagulation avoids the coagulation-cascade artefacts introduced when serum is prepared.
