About Allergy Plasma
Allergy Plasma for Type 2 Immunity and Allergic Disease Research
Allergy Plasma is collected from IRB-consented donors with clinically diagnosed allergic disease and processed within one day of collection to preserve labile analytes such as immunoglobulins, cytokines, proteins and metabolites. Because plasma is acellular, it is supplied for soluble-analyte work — specific IgE and IgG4 serology, mediator quantification, proteomics and metabolomics — in standard or custom aliquot volumes with de-identified clinical annotation.
Why Allergy Plasma for Type 2 Immunity Research
Allergic disease is driven by type 2 immunity, not autoimmunity. On first exposure, allergen-specific Th2 cells and type 2 innate lymphoid cells release IL-4, IL-5 and IL-13, driving B cells to class-switch to IgE. That IgE binds FcεRI on mast cells and basophils, and re-exposure crosslinks it to trigger degranulation. Almost every element of that axis that can be measured is a circulating soluble protein.
- Total and allergen-specific IgE — the defining serological readout of sensitisation, and the analyte behind component-resolved diagnostic panels.
- Type 2 cytokines — IL-4, IL-5, IL-13 and TSLP-driven mediators circulate at low abundance and are the direct targets of current biologic therapies.
- Eosinophil and mast cell products — eosinophil cationic protein, eosinophil-derived neurotoxin and tryptase report on effector-cell activation in the acellular compartment.
- Soluble receptors and IgG4 — soluble FcεRII/CD23 and allergen-specific IgG4 are of particular interest as immunotherapy response markers, since IgG4 typically rises with successful desensitisation.
- Barrier and epithelial alarmins — periostin and related epithelial-derived proteins link airway and skin barrier dysfunction to systemic type 2 inflammation.
- Acellular by design — plasma is the correct input for immunoassay, multiplex and mass spectrometry workflows; cellular allergy assays such as basophil activation testing require a cellular product instead.
